会話でなら「このデータベース何？」「MySQLだよ」とか言いますけど、定義上「データベース」はデータを（使いやすい形に）整理したものであって、MySQLはそういうのを管理する「データベース管理システム (Database Management System, DBMS)」のひとつ、のはず。

特に間違ってない気がする。海外の辞書でも同じような記述があるので、日本だけの独自呼称とかでもないはず。
ところが、例えばMySQLは公式サイトを見るとdatabaseであると。

MySQLの権利を持つOracleは、別の製品の方でもOracle Databaseみたいな表現を使っている。
MariaDBはone of ～ databasesなので、これもdatabaseか。

データベースとDBMSを区別しないと「データベースでデータベースを作る」みたいな表現になって、どうなのかと思うんですよね。データベースシステムくらいならまだわかるんだけど。
